My family are from Greek heritage so I have a special place in my heart for this incredibly warm and welcoming country. The Greeks have a word ฯฮนฮปฮฟฮพฮตฮฝฮฏฮฑ (philoxenia) which translates to “friend of the stranger”, but in deeper meaning is to treat a stranger as if they were friend or family and directly relates to hospitality. No one does hospitality like the Greeks, not in any of my travel experience.
I’ve had the pleasure of being shown Greece by locals, covering all sorts of areas from Crete to Athens and to our family villages in the mountains of the Peloponnese. I’ve spent a week on a sailboat touring the Aegean islands and have visited the famous islands of Santorini and Mykonos. Whether you visit for the sun, the philoxenia or the food – Greece is a destination that has something to offer all of it’s guests.
