Reviewing Accomodation Options in London – Hotels versus Apartments

Houses of Parliament, London

The rise of sites like Airbnb means that there are more apartments than ever for travellers to rent. In the past, a hotel was the default choice when looking for accommodation but that is no longer the case and you have so many more options.

If youโ€™re planning a trip to London, you might be wondering whether itโ€™s better to stay in a hotel or an apartment. It all depends, of course, on what you want out of your trip and what your personal preferences are. However, this guide will give you some insight into the pros and cons of each option to help you make your decision.

Benefits Of An Apartment

The price is one of the big benefits of renting apartments on sites like Airbnb, but it does depend on how many people are going and where you want to stay. For example, if you are travelling with a big group, itโ€™s probably cheaper to get an apartment than it would be to get 4 hotel rooms. However, if you are travelling solo or as a couple, an apartment could end up being more expensive. That said, if you search around, you can usually find cheap deals on apartments.

You also have more space in an apartment because you will have a living room and kitchen area. The kitchen is great if you want to save money by cooking your own meals, which is a good idea because London can be a very expensive city to visit. With express groceries stores available throughout the city, it’s easy to grab breakfasts there and have them in the apartment before heading out for the day.

In terms of location, there isnโ€™t much difference between hotels and apartments. Youโ€™ll find accommodation of both types near to the big tourist attractions and museums in the city, and you can expect to pay a premium for this location regardless of whether you go for a hotel or apartment.

Benefits Of A Hotel

Some people love the hotel experience and if you are one of those people, you might not like an apartment. If you enjoy having room service and breakfast sorted for you, a hotel is great. You donโ€™t have to worry about anything and itโ€™s a lot easier.

For some people, that is what they want out of their trip, while others donโ€™t mind having to cook meals and wash up etc. Itโ€™s really up to you to decide what you want out of the trip.

There’s the benefit that hotels often come with concierge and knowledgeable staff who can help you navigate a new city. London’s tube system is fantastic but having someone who can explain how to get from Point A to Point B is always helpful. They’ll also have great recommendations for local restaurants and insight into the sites to see in the area.

However, if you want the best of both worlds, you should look into serviced apartments at LSA instead. A serviced apartment gives you all of the extra space and privacy of an apartment, but you do get the concierge services that you come to expect from a hotel. For many people, this middle ground between the two is the best option.

Overall, it depends on your personal preferences, so think about what your priorities are before you book your trip. If you want to relax and have everything taken care of, a hotel is best. If you donโ€™t mind doing a bit of cooking and washing up but you need more space and privacy, an apartment is the way to go. But if you want the best of both worlds, look into serviced apartments instead.
